Choosing the correct pipe size for a spray bar
Choosing the correct pipe size for your spray bar system is crucial for ensuring proper fluid flow and maintaining the desired pressure. Once you know the combined flow rate required for all the nozzles on the spray bar, you need to look up the likely pressure losses for the various pipe sizes available. Pressure losses for different flow rates are given in pressure lost in bar per 100 m of pipe.
In most cases, spray bars are relatively short, so the actual pressure losses incurred are not a major concern. However, it is generally recommended to use pipe that would incur a pressure loss of less than 0.5 Bar per 100 m.
- For ¾” pipe, this is about 17 l/min
- For 1” pipe, this is about 30 l/min
- For 1 ¼” pipe, this is about 50 l/min
- For 1 ½” pipe, this is about 100 l/min
- For 2” pipe, this is about 200 l/min
